Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, will start its first international flights in mid-September with the approval of the Civil Aviation Administration. Several domestic and foreign airlines have applied to resume flights from Wuhan to destinations such as Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
After the COVID-19 outbreak began, 63 international and regional routes to Wuhan were completely suspended. At the end of August, passenger flights to 73 domestic destinations resumed and daily domestic passenger volumes recovered by more than 90 percent compared to the same period last year. As passenger traffic continued to increase, the airport also opened dual channels for cargo transportation to Europe and the United States.
